License

Aperto is meant to be freely accessible — and to stay textually stable. That is why the translation text is licensed differently from everything built around it.

The translation text: CC BY-ND 4.0

The Aperto Bible text is licensed under Creative Commons CC BY-ND 4.0. That means it is free to read, share, quote, and use — including commercially. Only two conditions apply: attribution, and no modified versions. This makes the text freer than any major German translation — and just as textually stable.

Commentary, audio, apparatus, and app

The commentary, the audio recordings, the scholarly apparatus, and the app are licensed separately, with all rights reserved. The free text and the work built around it follow different rules.

Two explicit permissions

  • Verbatim, unmodified audio recordings of the text are expressly permitted.
  • Third-party translations of the text into other languages are not permitted — Aperto is multilingual by design. If you would like to help with a language version, you are warmly invited: translate.aperto.bible.
