Luke 17-19

The Crowds Gather

Dust rising in soft afternoon backlight above a flat open ground, the particles glowing gold in the light

He came down with them and stood on level ground. A great crowd of disciples was waiting, and beyond them a mass of people — from all over Judea and Jerusalem, and from the coast, from Tyre and SidonlinkContextTyre and SidonPagan coastal cities in Phoenician territory — Gentile land. Their inclusion signals that Jesus' reach already extends beyond Jewish boundaries. This anticipates Luke's larger arc: the mission to the nations that will unfold in Acts. The movement from mountain (theophany space) to level ground (accessible to all, including Gentiles) is itself theological — Jesus descends to where people can reach him.. They had come to hear him. They had come to be healed. He freed those tormented by unclean spirits.

Everyone was trying to touch him, because power was flowing out of him, and it healed them all.
