Luke 5-9
The Temple Will Fall
Some people were admiring the Temple — the fine stones, the gifts that generations had dedicated to God. He said, "These things you're gazing at? Days are coming when not one stone will be left on another. All of it — torn down."
"Teacher," they asked, "when? And what will the sign be?"
"Watch that no one leads you astray," he said. "Many will come in my name claiming, 'I am the one!TextI am the one!The Greek Ἐγώ εἰμι ("I am") echoes the divine name revealed to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:14, LXX). The false claimants are not merely saying "I'm the messiah" — they are appropriating the language of divine self-revelation. The gravity of the deception is proportional to the language they steal.' and 'The time has come!' Do not follow them. And when you hear of wars and revolts — do not be terrified. All that has to happen first. But it's not the endLifeit's not the endJesus explicitly says that wars and political upheavals are NOT the signal for the end — "it's not the end." This verse directly undermines every attempt to read current events as proof that the End is imminent. Every generation has had its wars, revolts, and crises. Jesus' instruction is against credulity and date-setting, not in favor of it.."

Culture the fine stones expand_more
Herod's Temple was one of the ancient world's architectural marvels: massive white limestone blocks (some weighing over 500 tons), a golden vine over the entrance, and votive offerings accumulated over centuries. Josephus (Antiquities 15.394-95) records that the Temple's white stone and gold "reflected so fierce a blaze of fire that the eye was forced to turn away." The disciples' admiration was the normal response. Jesus' prediction of total destruction was scandalous.

Difficult Was this prophecy fulfilled? expand_more
In 70 CE, Roman legions under Titus destroyed the Temple completely. Josephus (Jewish War 7.1-4) describes the systematic demolition: "Caesar ordered the whole city and the Temple to be razed to the ground." Archaeological evidence confirms the destruction — massive stones from the Temple platform have been found where they fell. The prophecy "not one stone upon another" describes observed historical reality.
